ROGERIAN
In my rogerian letter, I responded to Ian Tuttle's article "More Hypocrisy from Black Lives Matter", who believes that the Black Lives Matter is built upon hypocrisy.
REBUTTAL
I would first like to thank you for sharing your views and opinions on the Black Lives Matter movement. Like you, I just want to live in a world where everyone can be seen as equals. I completely understand why you may have reservations in regards to the Black Lives Matter movement but I can assure you the movement truly means no harm.
The instances you named in your article may or may not be true, however, anyone that had a hand in those instances and claimed to be apart of the Black Lives Matter movement is in actuality not a part of the movement at all. I completely agree with you that there are African Americans out there that are commits distasteful acts, but I can assure you they do not stand for the same thing that the BLM movement stands for.
The movement strives for peace, equality, and collaboration. The intent of the movement is in no way aiming to force fear into white people, police officers, or anyone. African Americans feel as though there is already a fear placed inside many other people and one of the many goals of the Black Lives Matter movement is to remove that fear out of people. You mentioned the shooter in Dallas and how police officers are in fear of their lives, but that is the same way all African Americans feel. Micah Johnson claimed, “to be mad on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement” however, that does not mean he was a prominent advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement. Many people love to throw of the name of the movement when they are taking action but fail to realize that their actions are not always in line with the mission of the Black Lives Matter movement. You even go to acknowledge that the BLM movement is not responsible for Johnson’s actions but you claim the movement is responsible for the response to the situations. Personally, I have not seen many people advocate the actions of Johnson or anyone who acts out with violence. The BLM movement I know would never advocate actions such as those.
I am glad to have viewed your opinion on the matter; I am sure advocates for the Black Lives Matter movement would love to read it as well so they can make sure you strengthen their anti-violence views. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter!
